Five new artists for summer 2010

by Yanick Saila-Ngita

Unsatisfied with the state of sun-infused summer pop music, the editors at Reply asked culture vulture Yanick Saila-Ngita to find five fresh, global up-and-comers to share with our readers.

The Naked & The Famous — “Young Blood” (New Zealand)

After reaching the top of the charts in their homeland, The Naked & The Famous are poised to make a statement in the international music scene with this mellow tune that conjures feelings of nostalgia.

Mark Ronson & The Business INTL — “Bang Bang Bang” (USA)

One of the most respected producers in the game, Ronson teams up with the legendary Q-Tip & newcomer MNDR to unleash a bilingual electro jam.

Robyn — “Dancing on My Own” (Sweden)

After fifteen years in the game, Robyn demonstrates no signs of backing down and continues to evolve. Perhaps no other track this summer will propel you to simultaneously hit the dance floor and shed a little tear.

Tinie Tempah — “Frisky” (UK)

He’s caught the eye of the likes of P. Diddy and after spending most of 2010 dominating the British charts he’s determined to get the world bouncing to his infectious grime beats.

Sia — “Clap Your Hands” (Australia)

The quirky chanteuse whose fan base has grown thanks to her music being featured on numerous TV shows is releasing a new album that features strong melodies, hard guitar riffs, and a soft spoken vulnerability.

Yanick Saila-Ngita is a D.C. based culture vulture & entertainment law wannabe with a penchant for all things catchy & pop.

  1. Great picks for any season, really. Anything with Q-Tip in it has my vote.
